Fairbury – A. John Kilgus, 87, of Fairbury, passed away at 2:30am, November 24, 2016, at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
His funeral will be held at 10:00am, Monday, November 28, 2016, at Gridley Apostolic Christian Church. Ministers of the church will be officiating.
Burial will be in North Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Forrest.
Visitation will be held from 2-5:00pm, Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9-9:45am, Monday, November 28, 2016 at the church.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury or Southeastern Livingston County Ambulance Service.
John was born June 7, 1929, in Forrest, the son of Henry and Lydia Bahler Kilgus.
He first married Barbara Roth on April 3, 1955. She died November 4, 1993. He then married Shirley Bowald Zimmerman on August 31, 1996. She passed away November 2, 2016.
Surviving are his children, Tom (Pam) Kilgus of Forrest and Joe Kilgus of Bloomington; step-children, Kari (Jeff) Kamrath of Forrest, Jon (Diane) Zimmerman of Fairbury; five grandchildren, Dayton (Joni) Kilgus, Hayley Kintner, Josh Maubach, Abby and Jacob Kilgus; four step-grandchildren, Jason (Brett Robinson) Kamrath, Harrison (Kate) Kamrath, Stephanie and Leslie Zimmerman; six great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Kilgus of Francesville, IN; and brother-in-law, Gene Myers of Chenoa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alice Myer and one brother, Elmer Henry.
John was a veteran of the United State Marines serving during the Korean Conflict.
John was a member of the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church and the Forrest American Legion.
He retired from farming in 2014.
John loved his family, church, and his farm. He also enjoyed traveling.
He was a kind and loving person that never new a stranger.
