He was born on August 29, 1918 in Gridley, IL a son of Emil and Eliza Stoller Witzig. He married Marjorie L. Gramm on October 21, 1945 in Gridley. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Roger (Elaine) Witzig of Gridley, IL; Virginia (Eric deceased) Zeller of Carmel, IN; Curtis (Norma) Witzig of Gridley; Edie (Ron) Bollier of Greenfield, IN; twenty grandchildren, and fifty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, seven sisters, and one son-in-law.
An Army veteran, Elmer served his country during WWII from 1942-1945 and received the Purple Heart.
He farmed just south of Gridley all of his life. He also served as a minister at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church for almost 45 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Gridley Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-5 and 6-8 pm at the Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso and also from 9-9:45 am on Saturday at the church before services. Burial will be in the Gridley Cemetery.
