The Fairview Haven team carefully researched the most effective approaches to caring for people with dementia. Again and again, we found that the household - or small-house - model offers far better outcomes than the traditional nursing-home structure.
What is the Household Model? The household model is defined as “small groups of people sharing house and home while directing their own daily lives.” Within this environment, residents and caregivers form meaningful, family-like bonds. People with dementia, in particular, flourish in smaller, calmer, and more familiar settings that reflect the rhythms and comforts of everyday home life.
